The first annual Silver Scream Festival debuts the first weekend in March at the Roxy Stadium Theatre in downtown Santa Rosa. Including a slew of really great panel guests like John Landis (Coming to America, An American Werewolf in Paris) and Bela Lugosi Jr., there will be demos by make up and special effects experts. Great classic and cult horror movies will be playing Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, March 4th through the 6th.

In the 1940’s and 50’s Alfred Hitchcock fell in love with Sonoma County and particularly Santa Rosa’s charms. He filmed Shadow of a Doubt here and, if you watch it today, you can see some familiar locations, like the train depot in Railroad Square and a stately old home on McDonald Ave. In 1996 the beautifully historic and haunting look of Santa Rosa High School on Mendocino Ave was chosen, but ultimately denied, to be used as the set for Wes Craven’s “Scream.” (Credits include a “no thanks to Santa Rosa High School”) Both of these filmmakers turned heads in the film industry and inspired many more great films. Santa Rosa has a large community of actors and filmmakers, some of whom will be showing their horror genre films at the Silver Scream Festival.

This three-day event will be a great place to see the kind of serious horror fans we have in this literal chosen land.
